UPSC Rank for IAS, IPS & IFS: Know the Required Rank for Each Service

The UPSC Civil Services Exam decides who becomes IAS, IPS, or IFS.

Your All India Rank (AIR) in the final merit list determines the service you get.

IAS is usually allotted to candidates with top ranks in the merit list.

IFS (Indian Foreign Service) is usually allotted to candidates with AIR 80–120.

IPS is typically allotted to candidates with AIR 100–200, depending on category.

Your category, preferences, and number of vacancies also affect service allocation.

Even with a good rank, choosing service preference wisely is very important.

Top rankers often prefer IAS first, then IFS or IPS.

After service allocation, candidates receive their state cadre.

A better rank in UPSC means higher chances of getting IAS, IPS, or IFS.
