NMC Proposes 10-Year MBBS Completion Limit: New Medical Education Rule Explained
The proposal is part of the Graduate Medical Education Regulations (Amendment) 2023.
Students will get up to 10 years from admission to complete the MBBS program.
The MBBS course includes 4.5 years of academics and 1 year of internship.
A compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship remains an essential part of training.
No changes have been proposed for the First Professional MBBS Examination.
Students will continue to get a maximum of four attempts to clear first-year MBBS exams.
The NMC has received approval from the competent authority for the proposed amendment.
Medical students, colleges, faculty, and stakeholders can submit feedback on the proposal.
Suggestions and objections can be sent to NMC within 30 days of the notification.
MBBS admission in India continues through qualification in the NEET UG examination.
The proposed extension aims to provide students more flexibility in completing medical education.
