Ratan Tata was born on December 28, 1937 in Bombay
He studied Architecture and Engineering at Cornell University, USA
In 1962, he joined the Tata group as an assistant in Tata Industries
In 1971, he was named director-in-charge of National Radio and Electronics (Nelco).
In 1974, he joined the board of Tata Sons as a director.
In 1975, he completee the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
In 1981 he was appointed as Chairman of Tata Industries
From 1986-1989, he served as Chairman of Air India, the national carrier.
On March 25, 1991, he took over from JRD Tata as Chairman of Tata Sons and Chairman of the Tata trusts.
In 2008, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian honour, by the Government of India.
In December 2012, he steped down as Chairman of Tata Sons after 50 years with the Tata group; was appointed as Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons.
