How to Become a Lieutenant in Indian Army After Graduation? Check CDS Exam & Eligibility

The Main Exam: CDS — Graduates can enter the Indian Army through the UPSC Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination.

Choose Indian Military Academy (IMA) — For a direct Army officer entry through CDS, select IMA, Dehradun as your preference.

Educational Qualification — A recognised graduation degree is required for IMA entry; final-year students can also apply subject to the prescribed conditions.

Clear the CDS Written Exam — The selection process begins with the UPSC CDS written examination.

Prepare for 3 Papers — For IMA, the written test covers English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics.

Clear the SSB Interview — Candidates who qualify the written exam are called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview.

Medical & Physical Fitness — Candidates must meet the prescribed physical and medical standards for defence service entry.

Complete IMA Training — After final selection, candidates undergo training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun before receiving their commission.
